Sandra Marr

Sandra Marr was a beloved music teacher in the Haddon Twp. School District who taught junior high band, elementary band lessons, and junior high general music from 1987 to 1996.  During her time in Haddon Township she made impactful connections with her students and long lasting friendships with her coworkers.

Sandra grew up in Front Royal, VA and later attended Shenandoah Conservatory (now Shenandoah University) where she majored in Flute Performance and Music Education. Upon graduation she moved to New Jersey to take lessons from the famed William Kinkaid, Jr, former principal flutist with the Philadelphia Orchestra.  She served as a Music Teacher in the Medford and Sommerdale School Districts as well as the principal flutist of the Wind Symphony of Southern New Jersey (formerly The Cherry Hill Wind Symphony under the direction of Lucien Cailliet, former clarinetist with The Philadelphia Orchestra). In 1977 she put her career on hold to raise her two children, a role that she relished for 9 years.

Mrs. Marr took a part time job in Haddon Township in 1987 and was quickly promoted to full time the following year. Sandra was so enamored by the wonderful people in Haddon Township that she decided to move her family there in 1989.  She continued to help grow the Band Program in Haddon Township until 1996 when she took early retirement due to her battle with colon cancer.  Sadly, Sandra passed away only a few months later in October of 1996.

To this day, the personal connections Sandra made with so many continue to flourish through her children, friends, family, and Haddon Township staff members.  She is remembered for her kindness and compassion, as well as the intense love she had for teaching music to all her students.
